The Silhouettes of America

Andrew Thomas Clifton, a friend, and a great photographer is slowly releasing his photos from the inauguration ceremonies. This is the aftermath of one of the biggest moments of America's history. Two million Americans were there to witness the swearing in of President Obama in Washington, D.C.

I spent the day with my parents watching minute by minute as the top office in America changed hands. They lived through the Civil Rights Movement. They escaped harm in Birmingham. They can tell me stories of things that I can only view in the Civil Rights Museum. Things that I take for granted like having white friends and going to great restaurants and reaching for the stars that were not possible 50 years ago. It feels surreal, but at the same time our new President has such a great resume that if you measured him on merit alone he would impress you. If you measured him on his eloquence he would sway you. However, it is his passion that moves us all. It is infectious, and the world is celebrating with us.
