Michael Jackson...the King of Pop Dies at 50...the day after

Yesterday was a surreal day for many of us. It will be one of those generation defining, "Where were you when..." days. A chapter was closed on our lives. A life was lost that touched millions around the world, but the disbelief and pain that we feel is not for a family member, but for that iconic figure Michael Jackson.

Yesterday I sat at my desk and I got a message that Michael Jackson had died. I immediately went to CNN to see if they had any news. They were reporting that he had been taken to the hospital. I then went to Twitter to see what the second by second buzz was. Twitter was alive with activity and I quickly began to check for links. One message made mention of TMZ, so I hopped over to their site where they were reporting that Michael Jackson was dead. I mentioned it to my coworkers at this point and they began doing the same thing. I am sure that productivity dropped to an all time low for the next few hours as your heard people talk about it and pull more information. Would he make it...was it just a coma? No. He was gone. And just like that...all of the reports of Farrah Fawcet's death were eclipsed. Just like that the world seemed that much smaller again. Why?

It is because for all of the madness that had encompassed Michael Jackson over the course of his lifetime there was one thing that we cannot deny. He gave us some great moments. You can look at any part of his musical legacy and know that there was something special about this story. A little African-American boy from the Midwest becomes the biggest musical artist in the world and lives his life on the stage. From Ed Sullivan, to Motown 25, to solo tours and tours with his brothers the Jackson 5, to We are the World...it all played out like a story.

Men and women will mourn the loss of Michael Jackson for many years to come and as we celebrate his life and ponder the untimeliness of his death with an beautifully scripted comeback in the making... It is such a wonderful story. R.I.P. Michael
